Elder Abuse - It's Time To Face The Reality


Message from the Minister of State (Seniors), Marjory LeBreton

Elder abuse is a serious issue that affects a growing population. It is estimated that somewhere between four and 10 per cent of seniors in Canada experience some kind of abuse - which often remains hidden or goes undetected.

In the Government of Canada's continuing efforts to combat elder abuse I am pleased to announce that the Elder Abuse – It's Time To Face The Reality advertising campaign will run for a second time during the month of October. The campaign helps Canadians recognize the signs and symptoms of elder abuse and provides important information on help and support that are available. The second phase of the national awareness campaign coincides with the United Nations International Day of Older Persons on October 1, 2009 . The campaign will consist of television, Internet and magazine advertisements. [ More ]
